Learning and Living the God-centered life

One Biblical Doctrine at a time…

Preview for December 5

We are moving from the incommunicable attributes to the communicable attributes in our teaching regarding the doctrine of God. The first incommunicable attribute that we are covering is the glory of God, which happens to be the theme for the entire Bible. The way I teach doctrine and learn doctrine is to first of all get a definition, then an illustration where possible, and finally Scriptural support for the doctrine. Over the past two years I have touched on the glory of God from time to time. But now we are ready to go scuba diving in our study this doctrine. I am going to post all the study notes on the website so that you can review from yesterday and also preview what I will be teaching next week. In addition I would like to give you an assignment that goes along with your Bible reading. When we start the new Bible reading plan in January I want you to note each time the "glory of God" is mentioned from Genesis to Revelation. All you need to do is put glory in the margin of your Bible. I think you are going to be amazed how many times this is revealed throughout the Bible.

The study in the glory of God will never be something you move beyond, but further into as you continue growing in the Christian life. As I pointed out yesterday the focal point of God's glory can be seen at the cross. Look again with me at Romans 3:25-26:
Rom. 3:25 whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed;
Rom. 3:26 for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

The most right thing that God can do in all the universe is to hold up and demonstrate the infinite value of His name or His glory. And God does so at the very cost of His own Son by His death on the cross. The cross is about the glory of God. So where do you and I fit into this gospel story? We (mankind) from day one have do nothing but trample and besmirch the glory of God. Do you realize that I have the right to only one thing as I come before a holy and righteous God? I have the right to be condemned to hell forever due to my sin which has falling short of God's glory. However out of God's grace and mercy He saves me by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. And now by the fact that I have been reconciled to God through the death and resurrection of Christ, I share in some finite measure His glory. God saves me so that when others see my life they will see a demonstration of the greatness and glory of Christ. Therefore the theme of our lives as Christians should be an upholding of His name or to live in such a way that Jesus looks great and glorious. How are we doing in that regard in our families, at work, in the community or even at church?

Have you noticed that almost every week I take you back to the cross as I teach on the doctrines? Let me ask you this question, are you still sinning each week and continuing to fall short of God's glory? STOP-LOOK-LISTEN. What is the reason that the glory of God is not manifested more in and through your life? If you answered because of sin you would be correct. So, here is the test question. What is the antidote for your sin that taints and tramples upon the glory of God? It is the gospel of Jesus Christ. This is the only antidote for sin and therefore you must have the gospel taught and preached to you constantly!
It is the gospel and only the gospel that is the power of God. And if you ask what is that power specifically it is the righteousness of God which we have seen is the glory of God manifested in Romans 3:25-26. Folks you don't need to just get saved you need to continue being saved and that only happens as you continue embracing the gospel each and every day. Therefore doesn't it make sense that the gospel centered life is what manifests itself into the God glorifying life!
